Burial Site of Falun Gong Veteran Visited by CCP Authorities Who Persecuted Him

Mr. Liao Songlin, a veteran retired from the Military Reception Center, was arrested eight times and sentenced three times for possessing Falun Gong books and helping neighbors in his community install TV receivers. After the latest sentencing, the 81-year-old Chenzhou City, Hunan Province resident passed away on October 14, 2022.

Even after his death, local community workers still came to harass him and even attempted to verify his death by going personally to Liao’s burial place.

Mr. Liao Songlin was arrested at home on July 19, 2018. His Falun Gong books, more than 9,000 yuan in cash, and other valuables were confiscated.

Only days after he was detained in Chenzhou Detention Center, the 77-year-old man was diagnosed with high blood pressure, heart disease, minor stroke, and tuberculosis. Yet instead of releasing him on medical bail, officials detained him at a military hospital. His wife, Ms. Meng Qinglian, worried for his health and demanded his release, but to no avail.

The Beihu District Court held a hearing of Mr. Liao’s case at the hospital on September 27, 2018. Ms. Meng was the only family member allowed to attend. Mr. Liao was handcuffed and shackled to the witness stand. When he tried to speak, the presiding judge Luo stopped him and deprived him of the right to defend himself for the remainder of the session.

On October 22, 2018, Mr. Liao was sentenced to three years at Wangling Prison, where his son, Mr. Liao Zhijun, was already serving a four-year term for practicing Falun Gong.

While Mr. Liao was in prison, his workplace suspended his pension. A local court later ruled that it was illegal for his workplace to arbitrarily suspend his pension, so the Military Reception Center agreed to send him 803 yuan per month. However, Mr. Liao never received the money.

After he was released on July 13, 2021, he suffered from poor health as a result of the persecution until he died a year later.

The Chinese communist regime arrested them for helping local residents install receivers for NTD Television, a New York-based independent Chinese television. Mr. Liao Songlin was sentenced to four years imprisonment and Mr. Liao Zhijun to three and a half years. Both of them are currently held in Jinshi Prison in Chengde, Hunan.

On May 10, 2008, the Chenzhou City 610 Office instigated the city’s National Security Bureau, Public Security Bureau, the Beuhu District 610 Office and the Beihu Public Security Bureau, and the Suxian District 610 Office and Suxian Public Security Bureau to arrest Mr. Liao’s family. Nineteen officials went to Mr. Liao’s house and confiscated nine sets of TV receivers and installation tools. They also confiscated Mr. Liao’s bankbook.

The Beihu District Procuratorate in Chenzhou City accused the father and son of “Breaking the laws with cult organizations” by helping local residents install NTD Television satellites. The father and son were tried at 3:50 p.m. on September 22, 2008. Mr. Liao Songlin was sentenced to four years and Mr. Liao Zhijun three and a half years in prison. The father is in the 7^th Ward and the son in the 1^st Ward of Jinshi Prison in Chengde, Hunan.

In the morning on October 15, 2007, a dozen staff members and officers from the Chenzhou City 610 Office in Hunan, Chenzhou City Domestic Security Bureau, and the Domestic Security Divisions in the Beihu and Suxian Districts seized Mr. Liao Songlin and his wife, Ms. Meng Qinglian. Mr. Liao Zhijun was picked up at work and so was his wife.

During the ensuing raid of their home, the staff and officers took two television sets, a motorcycle, a DVD player, ten satellite receivers, an MP3 and an MP4 player, eight bankbooks, 4,000 yuan (US$ 600) cssh, and many Falun Dafa books and materials.

All of the Liaos were held in Chenzhou City Detention Center for a month.

Mr. Liao Songlin was taken to a brainwashing center in 2001. In August 2002, he was illegally arrested again and taken to Chenzhou City Detention Center. In September 6, 2003, the Beihu District Court of Chenzhou City sentenced Mr. Liao a three-year prison term and locked him in Jinshi Prison.
