CENTER CALLS FOR ACCURACY IN REPORTING: NOT “FALUN GONG ACCUSATIONS”
The Falun Dafa Information Center reminds media that the primary allegations made surrounding the harvesting of organs from Falun Gong prisoners come from 1) a Chinese journalist with no ties to Falun Gong, and 2) a Chinese former hospital staff member, also with no Falun Gong ties, whose husband took part in the organ excisions. While Falun Gong practitioners are working to publicize these claims, and, as with the Center, to corroborate them, they are more accurately described as the claims of “Chinese insiders,” “Chinese sources,” or “a journalist from China” and “a witness from China.”
WESTERN STANDARD: “HARVEST OF HORRORS”
(May 22 edition) China’s Falun Gong prisoners are disappearing, and organ transplants are on the rise. Witnesses say there’s a deadly connection.

COURT HEARING FOR DR. WENYI WANG MOVED TO MAY 31
The court date for Dr. Wenyi Wang, a medical doctor who has investigated the organ harvesting in China and who publicly challenged President Hu Jintao on it at the White House, has been moved to May 31, the Epoch Times reports.
TWENTY-THREE DEATHS DOCUMENTED IN APRIL
Sources in China have documented the murder of 23 additional Falun Gong prisoners of conscience. Deaths resulted from beatings, forcible injection of neurotoxins, physical decline following electric shock torture, burnings, heavy labor, bamboo spike torture, force-feeding, and other forms of torture. Violations took place largely in detention centers, jails, and labor camps. Of the victims 11 were women; 9 of the 23 were over 55 years of age. Wang Jianguo, 32, of Jilin city, died after just 40 days in police custody. The total number of documented deaths now stands at 2,876.

CHINESE OFFICIALS RUSH TO DESTROY CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS
Sources in China report that officials of China’s Communist Party (CCP) are rushing to destroy classified documents across the northeastern province of Heilongjiang and possibly other regions. The move follows the exposure of organ harvesting carried out by CCP operations, many involving living bodies. The orders, numbered [2006]12, state that a range of documents issued by the central and provincial governments “must be destroyed” so as to “ensure the efficient dissemination and security of central government and provincial government documents, as well as to prevent classified documents from being disclosed.”

TSINGHUA PROFESSOR ARRESTED, SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING FALUN GONG LITERATURE
Sources in China report the arrest of Xu Yin, a faculty member at Beijing’s prestigious Tsinghua University. Xu was wrongfully arrested by Public Security Bureau officers on March 14, 2006, on grounds of possessing Falun Gong books and literature, and sentenced, on April 13, to two years of “re-education through labor.” Xu, an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, is the recipient of several awards for his teaching and scholarship, and is entitled to freedom of belief under China’s constitution. The Center condemns the arrest of Xu, who hardly needs “re-education,” and calls for his immediate and unconditional release.

NEW WEB RESOURCE ON ORGAN HARVESTING
The Center has published a new Website documenting the harvesting of organs in China from Falun Gong prisoners of conscience. The site includes a large array of news reports, interviews, audio and video files, a timeline, fact sheets, and more.

MEMOIR BEARS WITNESS TO HARROWING IMPRISONMENT FOR FALUN GONG, RECEIVES PRAISE
Witnessing History: One Chinese Woman’s Fight for Freedom, by Jennifer Zeng, has been published by Soho Press, making available to English speakers in North America the first memoir detailing life in captivity under the ban on Falun Gong. The Sydney Morning Herald describes it as “A glimpse not just of the true face of the Chinese government but of the threat holiness poses to the powerful…. A useful counterbalance to the reckless enthusiasm of our leaders and media for the Chinese miracle…. Should be mandatory reading.” The Utne Reader has said that “the well-researched text propels the book beyond mere memoir,” calling Zeng’s writing “redolent with detail” and “heartbreakingly frank.”
