Father Tortured to Mental Collapse, Daughter Facing Second Sentence for Faith
A retired judge and his daughter have been victims of the persecution for persisting in their faith in Falun Gong. For raising awareness of the group’s persecution in China, both have been repeatedly persecuted.
From intensive torture and denial of basic rights in custody, the 83-year-old Mr. Yin Yucai, is in poor health. While incarcerated from 2006-2011, he suffered a mental collapse.
After being released from prison term in 2011, he dared not return home or meet anyone. He kept saying, “They [the police] want to kill me and my family. I can’t go home.”
Yin, however, would be incarcerated again from 2014-2017, and face further torment.
His daughter, Ms. Yin Xianping, was arrested in 2016 and sentenced to a 3-year term. While incarcerated she was subject to brainwashing, sleep deprivation, long hours of stand, beating and abuse.
For, raising awareness of her faith recently, the 55-year-old was again detained, and now faces a 4-year sentence.
Here is their story.
Father Incarcerated and Brutally Tortured for Belief
Mr. Yin Yucai has been incarcerated for over 13 years for his belief. He suffered endless torture and harassment in the last two decades, at one point being tortured to mental collapse.
Yin began practicing Falun Gong in 1996, after his retirement. He was a former presiding judge of the Duchang County Criminal Court and former director of the Duchang County Parasitic Disease Treatment and Prevention Facility. He also headed the blood station where his daughter worked as a nurse.
After the persecution of Falun Gong began, Mr. Yin went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa on July 3, 2000. He was then arrested and detained 35 days, most of which would be spent at the Duchang County Detention Center.
He was arrested again at the end of 2000. When he was released after one week’s detention, he returned to Beijing, only to be arrested once more and given three years of forced labor.
For three full years, from 2001 to 2003, Mr. Yin was incarcerated in the Jiujiang City Forced Labor Camp, also known as Majialong Forced Labor Camp. Aside from the highly intensive work making colored lights and assembling quartz clock cassettes, he was constantly insulted and humiliated by the guards.
Even after he was released from the labor camp, local police officers monitored and harassed him. They frequently broke into and searched his home, extorted money from him, and threatened him.
Eight Years in Prison, Tortured to Mental Collapse
On January 29, 2005, officers from the Duchang Domestic Security Division arrested Mr. Yin for having Falun Gong informational fliers at home and held him at the local detention center. In June 2006, the Duchang County Court sentenced him to eight years in prison without giving him the opportunity to appeal. He was transferred to Zhuhu Farm and then to the Yuzhang Prison, where he was subjected to brainwashing and ordered to renounce Falun Gong.

In 2010, a dozen guards were assigned the duty of transforming Mr. Yin. They forced him to sit in the corner around the clock, and they rarely allowed him any sleep. They did not stop the torture even when he had a bowel movement in his pants. They did not allow him to wash his clothes either. They eventually succeeded in coercing him to write renunciation statements against his faith.
In March 2010, Mr. Yin was transferred from the first ward to the twelfth ward, where the guards forced him to do strenuous cleaning. After October that year, the guards instructed inmates to intensify the persecution. They laced his food and water with drugs that damaged the central nervous system. Mr. Yin began to suffer joint pains and felt uncomfortable. He couldn’t walk by himself and needed help from inmates.
The long period of torture caused Mr. Yin’s health to deteriorate. His whole body became swollen. He vomited blood and had blood in his stool. He was transferred to the hospital after being diagnosed with tachycardia (an abnormally rapid heart rate) at the prison clinic.
After his release on July 4, 2011, Mr. Yin dared not go home and instead stayed at a relative’s place. He wore a thick hat and thick mask and couldn’t help shivering in summer. He dared not meet anyone and kept saying, “They [the police] want to kill me and my family. I can’t go home.”
His 1,000 yuan monthly low-income subsidy has also been suspended since the second half of 2012.
Another Three Years and Two Months in Prison for Distributing Falun Gong Materials
Mr. Yin was arrested again when he was distributing Falun Gong materials in Xubu Town on the morning on January 13, 2014. He was taken to the police station and interrogated for over 5 hours. Police officer Huang Jimou punched him hard. In the afternoon, Mr. Yu was transferred to the town police department for further interrogation before he was taken to Duchang County Detention Center. His home was ransacked.
Mr. Yin was tried in the morning on May 21, 2014. His lawyer entered a not-guilty plea for him. The judge later sentenced the then 83-year-old man to three years and two months without informing his family. His daughter only learned about his sentencing when she visited him on June 13.
Mr. Yin was taken to Jingdezhen No.3 Prison on June 24. When his family was allowed to visit him two months later on August 27, they were devastated to see that he had lost a lot of weight and was in poor mental condition.
Mr. Yin was released in March 2017.
Daughter Loses Job, Detained and Sentenced for Distributing Falun Gong Materials
Job Suspended Without Pay
Working at the Duchang County Blood Station in Jiangxi Province, Ms. Yin often gave discharged patients Falun Gong materials. On December 5, 2012, one patient reported her to her director Cao Huanli, who ordered her to stop distributing the materials.
Yin maintained that she didn’t do anything wrong in speaking out about Falun Gong. She continued to share the information with her patients but was reported to Cao again on December 12, 2012.
Cao then searched her office and took away all the Falun Gong materials in her drawers and purse.
Two days later, the blood station’s Party secretary, Zhang Baolong, and two others notified Yin that she was suspended without pay.
The Duchang County 610 Office also canceled an award given to her blood station, causing each of her colleagues to lose several thousand yuan.
Detained for Ten Days
Yin was arrested by Zhou Wei, director of Tutang Town Police Station, when she was distributing Falun Gong materials on the street on the morning on September 7, 2013.
After being interrogated by Zhou, Yin was transferred to the county’s Domestic Security Office for further detention and violent interrogation. She was then held at the Duchang County Detention Center for ten days.
Sentenced to Three Years
Yin was arrested by police officer Shi Jialiang from the county’s criminal investigation team, when she was distributing Falun Gong materials on the street at around 8 p.m. on January 8, 2016. Her house was ransacked and she was taken to Duchang County Detain Center for further persecution.
The Duchang County Court tried Yin at the end of April 2016 and later sentenced her to three years. She appealed with the Jiujiang City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold the original verdict in mid-July 2016.
While Yin was detained at the Jiangxi Women’s Prison, she once tore down a poster slandering Falun Gong. The inmates slapped her in the face until her face was swollen and her lips drooped. She was also subjected to brainwashing, sleep deprivation, long hours of standing, beating and abuse.
Recent Arrest and Sentencing
Yin was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong around the Duchang County government building on February 23, 2021. She was placed on criminal detention the next day and her arrest was approved on March 5. In May, she was transferred to the Jiujiang City Detention Center.
The Yongxiu County Court in Jiujiang City sentenced her to four years and fined her 20,000 yuan on August 2, 2021, on charges of undermining the implementation of the law, the standard pretext used by the communist authorities to frame Falun Gong practitioners.
