Nepal: Students and Teachers Learn about Falun Gong on World Falun Dafa Day
On World Falun Dafa Day (May 13th, 2024) this year, which celebrated the 32nd anniversary of Falun Gong’s introduction to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, Dafa practitioners conducted a seminar at the Hupsekot Technical School in the Nawalparasi District of southern Nepal. During this two-hour introductory seminar, participants learned how to do Falun Gong’s five exercises and were taught about the spiritual practice’s teachings and history. Attendees were astounded by the tranquil energy brought forth by the exercises, and both horrified and deeply saddened to learn about Falun Dafa’s brutal persecution by the Chinese Communist Party.
Around the sixth century B.C., Buddha Shakyamuni was born in Lumbini, which is located in the Terai plains of southern Nepal, to the west of Hupsekot, where the introductory Falun Dafa seminar took place. Because of this local connection to Buddha Shakyamuni’s sacred birthplace, many of the Nepalese seminar attendees were familiar with Buddhist principles and the concept of a mind-body spiritual practice that includes meditation. Most participants reported having learned some kind of meditation practice prior to the Falun Dafa seminar.
However, according to the participants, the Falun Dafa meditations induced a greater sense of mental calm than the previous disciplines they had encountered. Dr. Prabin Puri taught both the philosophical and physical aspects of cultivation in Falun Gong, introducing the practice’s three guiding principles of Truthfulness (Zhen 真), Compassion (Shan 善), and Tolerance (Ren 忍). He explained how the five meditative exercises and moral teachings go hand in hand, providing many psychological and health benefits and a path of spiritual elevation.
A student attendee asked Dr. Puri if he could have the music that guided and accompanied the five sets of exercises, and was grateful to learn that all the audio files were available for free download on the Falun Dafa website. The main book of the practice, Zhuan Falun, along with many other supplementary lectures by Mr. Li Hongzhi, the exercise music, group practice sites, and video recordings of prior lectures are all available on the Falun Dafa website free of charge, enabling any interested person to learn the practice if they so desire.
Dr. Puri, while introducing Falun Gong, also shed light on the CCP’s persecution of Dafa practitioners over the past quarter century. For many seminar participants, this was novel and shocking information. Because China and Nepal share a border, the CCP’s propaganda and censorship have kept the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners hidden from the Nepalese people. When presented with photo documentation of the torture methods used by the CCP against Dafa practitioners, many of the seminar attendees had difficulty viewing the atrocities captured in the photos, and expressed their sympathies for the cruelty that practitioners have endured for remaining unwavering in their faith.
