Four Falun Gong Practitioners Tried for Kwai and Douyin Posts

On January 18, 2024, four Falun Gong practitioners in Jilin Province stood trial for posting Falun Gong content on the short video platforms, Kwai and Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

According to insiders, the Jilin Province 610 Office, which was absorbed into the Ministry of Public Security but maintains its function of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, gave the orders to arrest the four practitioners. Police reportedly monitored them for months before carrying out the arrests on July 12, 2023.

The practitioners include Mr. Xie Feng, Ms. Huang Mei, and two other practitioners who have yet to be identified.

The Baicheng City Police Department carried out the arrest of Mr. Xie and confiscated his Falun Gong books. They took him to the Baicheng City Detention Center, which declined to admit him after he failed their physical examination, and he was released on bail. It is unclear whether the other three practitioners were also released on bail.

Following the Taonan City Procuratorate’s indictments, Judge Lin Li of the Taonan City Court presided over the four trials on January 18, 2024. Each practitioner was allowed one family member to attend their hearing, which all lasted less than one hour.

The results of the trials remain unclear as of the publishing date.
