Inner Mongolia Man Dies One Day after Being Tried for His Faith

In Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, a resident died one day after he and his wife stood trial for their faith in Falun Gong.
Mr. Guo Zhenfang’s family received a call from the police on the evening of June 9, 2021, and were informed that he had died.
They rushed to the hospital and saw dozens of plainclothes officers guarding his body. They noted that his lower back was purple, he had injuries on the inner side of one of his knees, and his nose was bloody.
When they tried to look more carefully, officers held them back from getting any closer to his body. However, A doctor at the hospital revealed that Guo had no vital signs when the police brought him in.
Later, without his family’s consent, the police had Guo’s body taken to the Songshan District Funeral Home shortly.
June 8th Trial
While the authorities did not provide any explanation for his death, his family strongly suspected that he was tortured to death in the Songshan District Detention Center.
On June 8th, 2021, Just one day before his death, Guo and his wife Ms. Feng Yuhua were tried in the Songshan District Court. According to his family members who attended the hearing, they saw him walk into the courtroom. He appeared to be in good health at that time.
This was the second time that Guo and his wife had appeared in court after the couple had been arrested on November 25, 2020.
Their first hearing on April 8, 2021, was adjourned quickly after the judge ordered the prosecutor to re-evaluate certain evidence against the couple. Another hearing scheduled for May 19 was later canceled and moved to June 8.
